In November, an amazing young man called
became the first person with Down’s Syndrome to complete an Ironman triathlon!
Maybe you have been following his journey but if not here’s his story in brief. Two years ago, Chris decided to challenge himself and train for an Ironman. His motto is “1% better” which means that if you push yourself a little more each day that you can achieve something fantastic if you stick with it.
And this is exactly what Chris did, he trained and pushed himself until he completed an Iron Man. This includes a 3.86km swim, 180.25km cycle and 42.21km run. This accomplishment earned Chris a spot in the Guinness World Records, and he is going to the 2022 Special Olympics. A real testament to what you can do if you set your mind to it!
It is important to remember that a person is not their diagnosis. They are a person who happens to have a genetic condition. So, be kind and strive for 1% better in whatever you do.
